Energy Efficiency Day 2017

October 5, 2017

This year National Energy Efficiency day falls on October 5th.  Mayors nationwide are declaring it Energy Efficiency Day in their towns and cities and encouraging people to start energy efficient projects.

The National Resources Defense Council (NRDC) explains that some of the biggest benefits of efficiency are:

  • Lowering Energy Bills
  • Creating Jobs
  • Fueling the Economy
  • Improvement of Air Quality and Public Health
  • Helping Meet Climate Targets

Energy efficiency has already shown it can make an impact, as electricity use was 5 percent lower in 2016 than in 2010, while the U.S. economy grew by almost 13 percent over those years.

According to energyefficiencyday.org the 5 easiest ways to save energy are:

  • Switching to LED lightbulbs
  • Sealing leaks in house/building envelope
  • Heating and Cooling efficiently
  • Maintaining HVAC system
  • Looking for the Energy Star label on appliances

Energyefficiency.org goes on to say that reducing the energy used by manufacturers, homes and businesses benefits everyone – especially energy bill-payers. The average household, for example, saves almost $500 every year from efficiency standards for common appliances such as dishwashers, refrigerators and water heaters.
